MaxSignal® Sulfamethoxazole ELISA Test Kit is a competitive enzyme immunoassay for the quantitative analysis of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in fish, shrimp, honey, kidney, liver, meat (beef, chicken and pork), milk, milk powder, serum, urine and water. Sulfonamides are widely used as feed additives, mainly for fattening of calves and pigs. Sulfonamides are also used in veterinary medicine for the treatment of intestinal infections, mastitis, and other diseases. Sulfonamide residues may therefore occur in food of animal origin such as fish and shrimp. According to the US FDA and EU-Law, a maximum residue limit for all substances of the sulfonamide-group of 100 ppb in muscle, fat, liver and kidney and of 100 ppb in milk is valid.
Although physical-chemical methods such as high pressure liquid chromatography are widely used for sulfamethoxazole detection, their application for routine screening of numerous samples, however, is limited by cost and instrumentation. Alternatively, enzyme immunoassays (ELISA) show considerable advantages over conventional methods. MaxSignal® Sulfamethoxazole ELISA Test Kit enables international and government regulatory agencies, food manufacturers and processors, as well as quality assurance organizations, to detect Sulfamethoxazole below the maximum residue limit in various sample types in response to customer concerns about food safety.
