The MaxDiscovery™ Mouse IL-1β ELISA Test Kit is designed for quantitative determination of the concentration of mouse IL-1β serum, plasma, and cell culture supernatant.
Mouse mature interleukin-1β (IL-1β) is a 17 kDa protein cleaved from its precursor (a 33 kDa protein). Together with IL-1α, they are members of IL-1 gene family. It is produced by various cells, especially macrophages and T cells in mice. The IL-1β is encoded by a gene family composed of IL-1α, IL-1β, and IL-1Rα. When stimulated by other cytokine growth factors, mRNA of IL-1β is present within 15 minutes and accumulates for 4 hours followed by a rapid fall that results in part from the synthesis of a transcriptional repressor as well as a decrease in mRNA half-life. IL-1β plays a role in signal transduction through its receptor, IL-1R. IL-1β is a converting enzyme which plays an important role in apoptosis through nitric oxide. Recombinant IL-1 β has similar biological functions in response to cytokine stimulus. In addition, recombinant IL-1β generated in E. coli is nonglycosylated and is biologically active.
