Simple, Accurate and Automation-compatible Assay for Measuring Inorganic Phosphorus Levels in Serum Samples

The MaxDiscovery™ Inorganic Phosphorus Assay Kit is a plate-based colorimetric assay for the quantitative determination of inorganic phosphorus in serum samples. The kit uses a spectrophotometric assay to detect inorganic phosphorus directly from serum samples, enabling researchers to detect inorganic phosphorus levels in animal serum and other tissue matrices such as urine and ascites.

The MaxDiscovery Inorganic Phosphorus Assay Kit is a simple, accurate and automation-compatible method for measuring inorganic phosphorus levels in serum samples. In the assay, inorganic phosphorus reacts with ammonium molybdate in an acid medium to form phosphomolybdate complex. The complex is then reduced by ferrous ammonium sulfate to produce a molybdenum blue complex. The absorption of this color is measured at 675 nm and its intensity is directly proportional to the phosphorus concentration. This kit provides direct determination of inorganic phosphorus in serum, plasma, and other fluid samples.

The kit contains sufficient materials to rapidly test 42 serum samples in duplicate, as well as a control solution containing an inorganic phosphorus standard which can be used to calibrate the assay.

Phosphate is one of the most important of the inorganic ions in biological systems. Phosphate acts as a molecular switch that turn enzyme activity on and off through the mediation of protein kinases and phosphatases. Phosphate levels relate to a variety of disorders including bone, parathyroid and renal disease. Elevated levels of phosphorus may occur in diabetic ketoacidosis, hypoparathyroidism, liver disease and renal failure. Reduced serum phosphorus levels may indicate alcoholism, vitamin D deficiency, hyperparathyroidism and hypercalcemia.
