For rapid assessment of iron levels in serum
The MaxDiscovery™ Iron Assay Kit is a simple, direct and automation-compatible method for measuring iron levels in serum from mice, rats and other rodents. This kit uses a coupled reaction scheme: Iron is first released from proteins and reduced using acidic hydroxylamine. In the second step, the reduced iron forms a strongly-colored complex with ferene reagent. The colored complex absorbs light at 560 nm. The amount of ferene complex, measured by the sample absorbance at 560 nm, is proportional to the concentration of iron in the sample. The kit includes a control solution containing an iron standard (500 µg/dL), which is used to calibrate the assay.
Serum iron is an important marker for numerous disease states, including hemochromatosis, hemolysis, hepatitis, gastrointestinal blood loss, anemia, malnourishment, and malabsorption.
The MaxDiscovery Iron Assay Kit has the capacity for 96 determinations or testing of 42 samples in duplicate (using 12 wells for standards). Store the kit at room temperature (18-25°C). The shelf life of the kit is 6 months when the kit is properly stored.
