Blood-Based Tests For Liver Function
Liver toxicity is a potential side effect of the non-optimal administration of drugs and delivery agents. Monitoring changes in hepatic function during treatment provides essential information to assess the effects of treatment on liver health and to develop protocols with minimal toxicity. Liver enzymes provide valuable information regarding the health and integrity of the organ since they are normally within the liver and not circulating in the blood. Hepatic damage associated with toxic doses of chemical or biological agents causes some liver enzymes to spill out into the blood. Thus measuring liver enzyme (such as ALT and AST) levels in blood samples (serum) provide a convenient and accurate method to detect and alleviate hepatic toxicity.
Bioo Scientific is pleased to announce the introduction of seven new products designed to monitor liver and heart function from serum samples (serum markers). These simple and convenient tests allow the rapid, colorimetric determination of well-characterized functional markers for liver and heart directly from serum. These tests are ideal tools to monitor toxic effects caused by administration of siRNA, DNA plasmids, transfection agents or other therapeutic treatments during preclinical studies. Our product line includes two liver-specific enzyme tests, alanine transaminase and aspartate transaminase, as well as creatine kinase, a heart-specific enzyme marker (see below). The assays can be used in a range of mammals, including mice and rats, providing a powerful tool to assess and reduce the toxicity of drugs formulations and to improve methods used for drug delivery.
- Alanine transaminase (ALT) *
- Aspartate transaminase (AST) *
